DROPKICKED my ASS!

Well as I remember the story...My husband and I were having a joyous time in Milwaukee! We visited with a high school friend and his wife...shopped; ate; saw a movie; toured Harley Factory...Just plain ole good fun! So Monday night comes and it's time for the Dropkick Murphys concert. We get there and buy some merch listen to the openers have a couple beers...great fun. Opening acts all were form Boston. Darkbuster( The opening opening opening act) was really good awesome energy and fun to listen to...all in all I give them a thumbs up. Next was Lost City Angeles (the opening opening act) I saw this group as Warped (back stage even) They were really intense...a little hard for my taste and the lead singer seemed enthralled he was really forceful. By Gang Green (opening act) We had made it up to the front and were hanging on the the rail. Gang Green ROCKED!!! This group was a favorite during my highschool years so I was really Jumped to see them (Actually the lead singer is the only original...but they rocked) fought hard during this group to keep our place in front on fence. Finally DK's come on and its AWESOME!!! I was clinging to the front rail and ended up locking my knees to hold my place but it was worth it. They start to talk about the Fields of Atherney and I look at my husband and Tell him I am not felling so good...I only had 2 beers so that's not it...it was a bit warm but not enough to get you sick...I remember them start to sing the song and the next thing I remember is my husband trying to wake me up... I was locked to the rail and I had passed out! The DK's stage manager and Jim were trying to rouse me and walked me over the side of the club. I sat down and drank some water. Fun things I learned that night. 1) Don't lock knees and cut off all blood flow to your body...you will pass out! 2) When you pass out you loose all control of bodily functions...Read...I peed my pants (Just adding to the name on the blog)
After the concert I told Jim the last song I remember and he looks at me and said I was passed out for at least 2 songs...He didn't know because I was still standing on the rail!
So we mad the decision to go to Chicago to see them again in 2 weeks! I hope to hear the songs I missed plus all new opening acts! Big D and the Kids Table...Wahoo!

Concert Etiquette 101

Okay so I have recently realized...Maybe because of my age ...That a slew of concert goers do not know the sacred rules of engaging in the age old obsession of seeing live music. So I have jotted a few rules down for those who might not have figured out what is acceptable and what is not.

Rule #1 Do not wear the the bands t-shirt you are seeing in concert!
This rule is the most important rule. By all means buy a t-shirt at the merch stand but stick it in your pocket; tie it around your waist; do something else with it but by no means put the shirt on your self in any way!!! I thought possibly this was a younger generation thing but when I attended the Social D concert ...Idiots with Social D t-shirts and sweatshirts. We already know you like Social D you are at the Concert Moron!!!! I also realize at a concert like Warped where you are seeing a plethora of different acts it might be hard to have a t-shirt of a band not at the venue...in this case go with a cool t-shirt or possibly a local band!

Rule #2 Always go to the opening acts!
Even if you have no clue who the band is you just never know! You might discover a gem among the crap! Let's say its the early 90's you decide to go see the Smashing Pumpkins and Red Hot Chilli Peppers in Concert...Opening act Pearl Jam...Get it!
Let's say you are at college and you have front row to Tom Petty...opening act Lenny Kravits.
Okay your in 8th grade and you are so excited about seeing Adam Ant in concert...opening act INXS. Catch My drift.
On side note just a quick note to opening acts. Just because the kick ass band picked you to open up doesn't mean the audience is going to love you. Come out and work your ass off to win me over. Just because your on stage doesn't automatically mean I am going to thrash to your music. Bad example of opening bands...The aforementioned Social D Concert...Opening band, Mest okay they were good younger rockers...opening opening act...Bullets and Octane...Quite possibly the worst band I have ever heard. I am not sure if they were picked because they also come from Orange county and Social was trying to give them a chance. Still by seeing them in concert I have tons of material for some funny stories about this sucky band!

Rule #3 Don't get so sloshed at the concert.
I absolutely think you should enjoy of some adult beverages at a concert. Do not however drink so heavily that you endanger yourself or the people around you. Also on this side your friends you came with have to choose between seeing a kick ass show or taking care of your ass.

Rule #4 Take care of yourself and those around you in the pit.
The pit at a concert is an enjoyable experience but please pick up those who fall and get help immediately if someone looks seriously hurt. This rule is just the tried and true of Treat others as you would want to be treated!

So hope these help all of the newbies starting the live show circuit. Keep live music around and support your local scene!

Thank you Sandusky Good Night!
